The Fortuitous Adventures of Mr. and Mrs. Oakes
…and other pertinent musings.

…where it all began. It’s official. I received orders to report for duty at Coast Guard Recruit Training Center, Cape May NJ.
My New Job: cc7.jpg
I’ll have to go to Company Commander School in the spring(two months), and from there I will begin running companies through, starting next summer when we move there.

Together, Moani and I are really excited to be moving away from Monterey despite having to wait for a whole year. At the very least, there is no guessing games as to where, when or how. Now, we are actually looking forward to our final year in California.

We found a cool article about Cape May: Cool article about Cape May

I also found a few websites that describe a bit about what I’m going to be doing and I’ll post them here:

The Coast Guard Channel: great video series of Coast Guard Boot Camp… Scroll to the bottom of the videos so that you can watch them in order. There are many other great movies on this site too.

So we are moving… this will be a local move and hopefully it will be much smoother than the last time!

Our new house is quite nice.

It has a washer and dryer and although it is in the kitchen again… a location that I loathe, I will make do with it.
It also has butchers block counter-tops, a view-through (inside window from kitchen to living room), a skylight, built-in bookshelves and a fire place.

Additionally, an awesome garage-sized storage shed to be used as “MAN SPACE” :)

it is located less than a block away from the recreational trail and a nice grassy park area right on the waterfront of Monterey Bay. We are very excited.

As this impending move is drawing nigh, I am as you can imagine, checking out all the U-hauls in the area. Imagine my surprise when I found this Coast Guard Cutter on the side of the U-haul as we were driving home from the movie theater.

We stopped and took a picture, much to the confusion and discomfort of the person sitting inside the U-haul.

More to follow as we get the chance. Jason

My adorable newest nephew….a spitting image of his father.
